Definitions

Binding

- Methods performed to secure loose pages in a book.

Bleed

- Printed colors that extend pass the edge of a page. To cut the product to the needed size and specification, the product has to be created with a .125" bleed. For example, if the product is Letter Size (8.5" by 11") then the size with bleed would be 8.625" x 11.125".

Card Stock

-Many types of heavyweight paper are called card stock which is also referred to as "cover stock". The thickness of card stock is defined by point sizes such as 14pt or 16pt.

CMYK

- For 4-color printing, the colors are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black (CMYK) which are used to reproduce exact color on the printed sheet. CMYK is also called "Process Color".

File Submission Guidelines

File Types

- Please use one of the following files types for a print job:

  • Image Types: .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff
  • Word/Publisher Types: .doc, .docx, .pub
  • Adobe Types: .pdf, .indd(Indesign), .psd(Photoshop), .ai, .eps(Illustrator)

- Be sure to embed all fonts (and subsets) when creating your pdf. This option can be found in Acrobat Distiller under the following menu: Settings>Edit Adobe PDF Settings>Fonts.

Color Mode

- Accepted color modes are CMYK, CMYK + spot, or Grayscale. Please ensure that your document contains only the colors that are written into your quote for your project.

RGB Mode

- Please make sure that no images, graphics, or text is in RGB mode. RGB colors are only displayable on monitors and do not translate into matching colors when printed. For instance, an RGB blue may appear as purple when printed.

Bleed

- If your project has images or graphics that are intended to run to the page edge, you must include extra area around the edges of your document. For sheet fed jobs, we require .125" of bleed on all four sides.

Resolution

- All files submitted should be 300 dpi (dots per inch) or higher.
